This exhibition highlights 9 – 11 never-before-seen photographs from Ron Pollard’s Kane Ranch collection, framed by Christopher R. Perez and accompanied by a poem by Peter LaFarge.
From the artist:
The Andy Kane Ranch, located in Fountain, Colorado, was the singer/songwriter Peter LaFarge’s boyhood home. Peter has become a controversial figure in recent years. As a young artist, his claim that he was of Native American birth was a fabrication.
Though, as I walked through his abandoned childhood home, I understood how connected he must have felt to this land. The murals that adorn his childhood bedroom speak of a spirit and passion and a memory that has been erased.
A few years ago, the home was razed. Nothing remains but memories, pictures, and songs, and poetry.
He may not have had native roots, but his soul was of this land. He was a genuine Rodeo Cowboy and an incredible artist.
– “Yea, call him drunken Ira Hayes,
But his land is just as dry,
And the ghost is lying thirsty
In the ditch where Ira died.”
The Ballad of Ira Hayes, By Peter LaFarge
