Sonia Soberats’ relationship with photography didn’t begin until she lost her eyesight to glaucoma in the early 1990’s. Soberats uses the technique of Light Painting -- a photographic process utilizing lengthy exposures in total darkness and hand-held light sources -- with which Sonia is able to feel, shape, and embellish her subjects. Sonia is a co-founder and member of the New York based collective for blind photographers, Seeing With Photography. Sonia’s work poses fundamental questions about the notion of visual culture and about the relationship between perception, imagination, and creation. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world.
