Homescapes

March 10 - April 6

Fireplace Gallery, Dayton Memorial Library at Regis University

This exhibition explores the theme of "home" through the lens of photography, offering an exploration of place, identity, and perspective. The photographs in this exhibition trace “traditional” portrayals of landscape photography to contemporary ones while reimagining ways in which home is not just a geographical space, but an emotional, cultural, and political one as well. The exhibition seeks to reveal how home can be a site of cultural customs, a space of joy and struggle, and a place of personal and collective identity. Each image asks the viewer to consider not only what "home" means, but whose perspective is represented in the images. Viewers are invited to reflect on their own understanding of home and to consider how photography, as an art form, can be a tool for storytelling and change. By diversifying the lens through which we view the world, photographers bring new and different narratives of home and belonging to the forefront, inviting us all to see "home" in a more inclusive light. This exhibition features works by Charles Roitz, William Sutton, Melanie Walker, selections from the Colorado Photographic Arts Center permanent collection, and student work. Curated by Hannah Miller, Archives and Digital Collections Librarian, and Mariana Pereira Vieira, Assistant Professor in Fine and Performing Arts.
